Absolute Hotel Spa
The Background: The Absolute Hotel & Spa is a beautiful 4-star boutique hotel in the heart of Limerick city. The hotel is very contemporary and modern, and looks to provide its guests with an experience and a level of service that’s second to none.
The Challenge: In late 2012, NTES was invited to complete a full IT audit and risk assessment to determine the hotel’s network needs. Our brief was to provide a reliable technology solution, bespoke to their unique needs and in keeping with their ambition to deliver a premium service to their client at every touch-point.
Our Involvement: We played a significant role in keeping the Absolute Hotel & Spa’s network infrastructure operating as best as possible during the economic downturn, nursing their ageing hardware until replacement budgets became available.
When we started the upgrade phase in 2012, network security was of utmost importance to the hotel, in keeping with the expectations of its upmarket clientele. With this in mind, NTES implemented a network monitoring and antivirus programme, and also managed patching.
The hotel’s email was migrated live from an in-house, aging Microsoft Exchange Server to the cloud-based Microsoft Office 365. A state-of-the-art desktop monitoring software solution was also implemented. This enabled proactive network support and system monitoring.
Following our successful initial involvement in 2012, NTES continues to support the hotel, restructuring their network to suit their modern office needs and advising on further upgrades to future-proof their network.
We’re now engaged in the next phase of this project, which involves bringing more best in class programs to this very unique hotel. This includes virtualisation of the hotel’s systems and virtualised implementation of the hotel’s Opera Reservation System and POS servers. These are solutions NTES uniquely support and implement alongside supplier MICROS-Fidelio.
Our solution involves a brand new technology, known as ‘Cluster In a Box’. While it appears similar to a traditional server, it also includes switchers and servers that might be purchased as add-ons, thus delivering a tremendous level of cost-effectiveness.
This ultra-slick solution also saves on space, replacing 8 physical servers with just a single box but with no concessions to speed, security or reliability.
The Outcome: The numerous legacy issues that faced the Absolute Hotel have now been fully resolved. Of greater importance, however, the hotel has now been fully future-proofed in terms of its ability to harness emerging technologies over the coming years and decades.
