In the last month ESET have released a new version of all of their core product range. Version 5 of NOD32 Antivirus is massively improved and feature rich. NTES are an authorised reseller for the NOD32 suite of products in Ireland. Existing customers running NOD32 V4 are entitled to a free upgrade to version 5 which our engineers can perform at your request.

More information on the new version can be found on the Eset website.
Logmein and Eset NOD32 – CTRL ALT DELETE
There is one known issue with the current build of NOD32 V5 and the remote support software Logmein. This bug means that the CTRL ALT DEL command cannot be sent by the remote support engineer to your system, however the fix is currently as simple as disabling the Self-Defence system (but not HIPS itself).

[Today's post comes to us courtesy of Nick Whittome, Managing Director – NTES]

Here is a quick and handy tip for users of Microsoft Office 365 and Lync which we often get requested by our clients to implement.

Microsoft Lync does not allow you to display a picture unless it is hosted on a webserver somewhere. This is unlike MSN messenger or Skype which allow you to upload a picture within the app easily. The workaround is to use your Facebook profile picture as your Lync picture which a lot of our customers want to do.

So, to set that you do the following:

Find your Facebook name!

Logon to facebook…

Click on your own name on the top left of the facebook page.

Once you click your name, the URL at the top of your browser will show your facebook name in the path. Like this (highlighted)

Take note of the name.

Now open Lync, and do the following:

Click on the option dropdown (highlighted below)

Select My Picture from the left menu. Then Select Show a picture from a web address

Type in the following URL, but replace my name below with your own which you got from Facebook on step 3 above.

http://graph.facebook.com/nickwhittome/picture?type=large

Now your picture will show in all its glory!

Nick Whittome, Managing Director of NTES has written a technical article on a not well known Office 365 issue when running multiple accounts on Office 365 connected to a single outlook profile.

The basis for the article is to work around the technical problem of having two mailboxes served by Office 365 to your Microsoft Outlook client software on your PC. NTES find that this is, in fact, a very common configuration with Office 365 and therefore are directly linking you to Nick’s technical article here on his personal blog.

Remember, if you are unsure as to how to configure this yourselves or are simply just concerned about doing this, then please email support@ntes.ie and a ticket will be assigned for one of our team to perform this for you.

As part of NTES’s commitment to remain on the cutting edge of technology advances for our AudioVisual Customers we are pleased to announce that we are now a reseller and technical installer for the Just Add Power 2G range of HDMI over IP systems here in Ireland.

The Just Add Power 2G (JAP 2G) solution allows homes, businesses, conference centre’s, casinos, public houses and more to provide completely synchronised high definition 1080p video to hundreds of TV’s without the requirement of anything more than a single CAT5 Gigabit network connection.

Video Demo’s from JAP Staff

You can see on the YouTube video an example of how this works, and there is also a video of a recently announced 3D converter driver that can adapt old TV’s and projectors to 3D representation! This can save thousands in potential hardware upgrades.

Netstreams DigiLinX Drivers now Available!

There are now available a Netstreams DigilinX driver for seamless automation of the JAP 2G Video distribution system. Changing a rooms source will automatically control the TV or Projector in that room and switch completely automatically. An update coming later this year will increase that switching time even further again beating conventional HDMI matrix solutions hands down.

Nick Whittome, Managing Director of NTES and Microsoft MVP, has posted a technical article regarding Windows 7 SP1 install failures …

Here is the article

This article may help you get back to a working system in the event of this problem. NTES suggest that Windows 7 SP1 is not installed at this time without the supervision of one of our engineers. Please contact our offices to arrange or discuss further.

EDIT:

We have had some calls to the office already this morning asking why this is only happening now and not when the Service Pack was available on Microsoft.com for download. To explain, the issue is only happening now as Microsoft Update and Windows Server Update Services are automatically rolling out a different version of the Service Pack. i.e not the full download version of the service pack.

We have received a number of calls from Irish consumers during the past few weeks regarding this scam, which is on-going and active in the Irish marketplace.

Dear Customer,

We recieved the below notification from Microsoft, and wanted to bring it to our customers attention.

“We have received a number of calls from Irish consumers during the past few weeks regarding this scam, which is on-going and active in the Irish marketplace. Microsoft Ireland and the National Consumer Agency are working closely together to ensure Irish consumers are aware of the details. Consumers are receiving telephone calls from persons claiming to be from Microsoft, or working on behalf of Microsoft, to tell them they have a virus on their computer.

Details of the Scam:

Consumers receive a cold call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft and told there is a problem with their computer and offered help to solve the computer problems.

Once the caller has gained the consumer’s trust, they ask consumers to log onto a website to download a file to help solve the problem.

They then ask for credit card details for a package which will fix the virus. They also potentially attempt to steal from the person by accessing personal information on their computer. In addition to gaining access to your personal details, they can also infect your computer with damaging viruses and spyware.

Microsoft takes the privacy and security of our customers and partners personal information very seriously. We are advising customers to treat all unsolicited phone calls with skepticism and not to provide any personal information to anyone over the phone or online. Anyone who receives an unsolicited call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft should hang up. We can assure you Microsoft does not make these kinds of calls.

We have been working closely with the Irish authorities including An Gardai Siochana, the Data Protection Commissioner, ComReg to warn the public and investigate the perpetrators. As a Microsoft Partner we wanted to bring this to your attention as it’s affecting a good deal of consumers today. We would like to ask you for your help in getting this message out to your employees, your families and your customers and ask them to be vigilant about unsolicited calls.

For more information on this scam and how to protect yourself against this, please click here: http://www.microsoft.com/protect/fraud/phishing/Msname.aspx. Please feel free to report any of these calls to the National Consumer Agency on 1890 432 432 or get further information on www.nca.ie.”

Clearone have announced a new release of StreamNet Application Suite (Formally known as DigiLinX Application Suite).

This update is highly recommended for our DigiLinX clients as it has some major improvements noted in the release notes below from Clearone. Most notably the full support of DHCP services which mean better integration to your existing network.

Please contact your NTES representative to arrange and schedule your upgrade.
